these are a few of my favourite things...

Let's take a moment to look at these beautiful boots I recently acquired from Rare Threads in Healesville. These boots have swiftly become my favourite thing, and have walked me through these last couple of weeks with nary a blister or bandaid in sight. They look amazing with my dresses and will be featuring in new product images very soon!

Since acquiring these beauties I have been thinking a lot on favourite things. The first favourite thing I remember was Mousie, an inexplicably bright orange stuffed mouse with an overly long tail and hard, button eyes. As I grew into a more sophisticated toddler, Mousie was put aside for Snowy, an stuffed white dog with an extravagant tail (I now recognise as a Samoyed) who lay in elegant repose. Alas, she didn't look quite so elegant when I finished offering her my love and attention.

I can't remember who or what came after Snowy. This makes me a little sad, as whatever it was I know that at the time I would have loved it with all my tiny little being. I have no doubt that if I saw these items from my childhood today, the bear hug of nostalgia would be intense.

I look at my favourite things as an adult and although some are beautiful, most are favourites for functionality. A coffee mug that's just the right shape for my hand, an old hairbrush that I won't part with because the bristles are just right, an unusual thrifted necklace of a turquoise flower trapped in a heart of glass. These are but a few of my favourite things, but I don't feel overly sentimental about them. I wouldn't mourn their loss. Not like I mourned the loss of Snowy one Saturday morning - left behind at a bakery in Wentworthville only for us to be reunited an hour later, Mum holding my hand and me snotty and distraught while the kind lady behind the counter handed me Snowy, warm and smelling of bread.

Do you have a favourite thing that's lasted the passage of time?
