forever pieces
megsmithmakes garments are designed to last a lifetime, so that each wear gathers memories and love. I sew only ten of each style, so each piece starts as something special.
-
true slow fashion
I don't keep stock, but rather make each garment to order in my Dandenong Ranges studio. This means it might take a while for your garment to arrive - but I believe good things are worth the wait.

transparency & traceability
The clothes we love should be made with love. I design with sustainability in mind, and am Ethical Clothing Australia accredited and a member of Seamless Australia. My supply chain is available to view here.
The MEMENTO Collection
The first MEMENTO dress featuring the amazing artworks of Gwen John is now available 🤎
Gwendolen Mary John (1876-1939) was a Welsh painter whose quiet revolution
challenged everything the art world expected from women.
"I paint a good deal, but I don't often get a picture done—that requires, for me, a very long time of a quiet mind"
Working with a simple palette of ochres, greys, and muted blues, she created
portraits of women that showed unconventional psychological depth. Her
works could not be described as decorative society portraits, but rather
studies of women in quiet contemplation, hands folded, gazes turned inward. Through her "female gaze," she transformed traditional portrait subjects into agents with their own deep and unknowable narratives.
Despite exhibiting in prestigious venues, Gwen John was systematically overshadowed during her lifetime. For decades after her death in 1939,
Gwen John remained footnoted as "Augustus John's sister", but feminist
art historians of the 1970s worked to uncover her true significance. Augustus himself had predicted this reversal: "In 50 years' time I will be known as the brother of Gwen John." He was right.
For me, Gwen John’s legacy embodies MEMENTO’s mission: to remember the
brilliant women whose contributions were diminished by history, but whose artistic vision proved impossible to erase.

timeless, not trend
When I design my garments, I aim to incorporate what I feel are the
three principles of garment longevity - made to endure, made to adapt,
and made to outlast.
The fabrics I design feature stunning 19th century artworks - pieces that have captivated for centuries and will never fade from relevance. The cotton-linen blend on which the designs are printed is not only soft to the touch, but strong and double-stitched to withstand years of wear.
My one-size-fits-most philosophy ensures your garment will be a constant companion through time, adapting to your body so you may confidently wear it through all seasons of life.
My simple yet flattering designs are made to be versatile and elegant, so no matter what trends may come and go, your megsmithmakes piece will remain a beautiful and beloved wardrobe staple.
Timeless fashion is about investing in garments that are made to last - and to be loved - for years to come.
