frequently asked questions
garment sizing
megsmithmakes garments are ONE SIZE FITS MOST. The garments are designed to be worn a wee bit loose so there is some give in the measurements, but I do not suggest you go beyond what is specified below.
DRESS measurements are as follows:
- BUST 130cm
- HIPS 150cm
- BICEP 40cm
- FRONT DRESS LENGTH 95cm
- BACK DRESS LENGTH 120cm
JACKET measurements are as follows:
- BUST 130cm
- FRONT LENGTH 25cm
- BICEP 40cm
BOXY TOP measurements are as follows:
- FRONT LENGTH 45cm
- BACK LENGTH 45cm
- NECK 30cm
- BOTTOM WIDTH 90cm
You will need a tape measure and a useful friend to help take your measurements. A simple guide on how to measure your body can be found at how to get your body measurements.
For your BICEP measurement, perform your most impressive bicep flex and get your useful friend to measure around the widest, most impressive muscle. Then get your friend to do the same and see who wins.
For ladies of ample bosom - please note the jacket has a front length of 25cm. My mum, bless her heart, tried it on and although it fit it sat a little high on her bust. I would suggested popping on your favourite bra, and measuring 30cm down from your clavicle to get an idea where the bottom edge of the jacket will sit.
garment sets
Are you wondering why my garments are sold as sets and not as individual items? It all has to do with minimising waste.
Anyone who has sewn a garment knows that there can be a lot of fabric wastage. Despite our best efforts to fit pattern pieces as tightly as possible, there is still a lot of fabric that ends up on the cutting floor. My process is a little different. Because I design pattern pieces and artwork digitally, I can resize, rotate, shift and cram lots of pattern pieces into every nook and cranny of my 300cm x 145cm canvas. For instance the main dress has the obi-belt and headband squeezed in around it. The reversible jacket has the tote bag crammed in. And both of them come with a little something extra I squeezed in as a surprise!
This is basically why my garments are sold as sets. If I were to sell each product separately - say, just the tote bag and not the jacket - I would still have to print out the whole 300cm x 145cm piece of fabric, which would leave the jacket pieces as leftover "stock". It's more efficient AND more economical to print, sew and sell all the items that fit into my 300cm x 145cm canvas as a set.
Low waste, lovely, AND value for money.
the slow fashion order process
before placing your order...
- Ensure you have checked the sizing chart.
- Read the garment descriptions and care instructions.
Please do take the time to carefully record your body measurements and check your measurements against garment sizing charts. I encourage you to also review the garment care instructions, so you can best determine how to get longest life from your megsmithmakes garment.
after placing your order...
- I receive notification of your order via the website.
- I send the relevant digital fabric files to Next State Print.
- Fabric takes approximately 2 weeks to be printed and collected.
- I then get busy cutting, sewing, washing, packing and sending!
- I will send you progress updates as milestones are completed.
You then receive your order and are of course so overwhelmed with joy that you immediately take a photo and send it to me (at least that's what I hope!).
how long will it take?
- I operate as a slow fashion, made-upon-order business.
- I do not keep stock available for immediate purchase.
- Please allow up to 4 weeks to receive your garment.
If production stretches beyond 6 weeks, I will temporarily close orders until the current orders are cleared. This will be clearly indicated on the website, but please also subscribe to my newsletter to receive updates on current production times.
